raku vase (22115)
This raku vase has a cracked and broken surface. This created when the pot is thrown using sodium silicate and stretching the clay. At the firing stage, the glaze is applied and is partially wiped off. This leaves a beautiful contrasting surface of the metallic raku glaze and cracked bare clay.
These raku pots are not water proof, as due to the firing process there will be cracks and fisures in the pot itself. They are not safe to drink or eat out of and should only be handwashed. Never put them in the microwave! They may have a slight smell of bonfires, this is again from the firing process whcih involves putting them in sawdust to create the many colours.
