Raku large vase (22118)
This is one of the largest raku pieces I have made, and got out whole. The surface of this vase has been created while it was still on the wheel. It was covered with sodium silicate, dried and then thrown only from the inside. It was then raku fired with copper glazes and placed in dry sawdust post firing. This has produced the colours you can see. The glaze was also wiped off the pot leaving the glaze only in the cracks further enhancing the cracked surface effect, with a metallic finish in the cracks.
It has been treated inside with yacht varnish to try and make it water proof. It has been tested filled with water and appears to be sealed. It should only be hand washed if needed and left to dry. It should never be used to drink out. It should never be used in a microwave. It will be fine to put flowers in, or used as a cover pot for a plant in a plastic pot. Or purely appreciated for its complex and attractive surface.
